Recently the Mosaic Company donated $5,000 to VISTE (Volunteers In Service To the Elderly) through Feeding America Tampa Bay and a partnership with the Tampa Bay Rays called Home Runs for Food, according to Alice O’Reilly, VISTE President.
“We are always so grateful for the continued support of the Mosaic Company,” O’Reilly said. “They are so generous with us.”
The Home Runs for Food program launched in 2010, and through it, Mosaic pledges $500 for each home run hit during the team’s spring training and regular season games. This year’s total pledge to Feeding America Tampa Bay was $70,000. The funds were distributed amongst various agencies in the area.
According to the latest USDA report on food insecurity, one in six Americans is at risk of hunger. September is National Hunger Action Month. One in nine seniors are at risk of going hungry due to inability to obtain sufficient food for his or her household.
VISTE’s mission is to enable the frail elderly to remain safely and independently in their own homes. VISTE serves clients ages 70 and older in the Lakeland, Bartow, Ft. Meade and Mulberry areas. Meal programs such as hot meal delivery and commodities are two of the programs VISTE provides.
