Comfort Keepers Holds Food Drive to Benefit VISTE

September is National Hunger Action Month, and Comfort Keepers in Lakeland is taking action to assist seniors in need. They are asking the community to donate to the Feed Seniors Now food drive to benefit VISTE.

“At least one in nine seniors is at risk of going hungry due to the inability to obtain sufficient food for their household or having to choose between food and medical care,” said Gail Bagley Director of Educational Programs at Comfort Keepers, quoting information from Feeding America.

“National Hunger Action Month is in September, but seniors go hungry all year,” Bagley said. “We cannot fight every factor effecting hunger, but we can start by creating awareness about the issue and helping family members become more aware of the signs of malnutrition.”

The local Feed Seniors Now collection drive will be held from throughout September until November 30. Collection bins will be placed at the following locations:

  • Sanlan RV Park, 3929 U.S. 98 S.,
  • Palm Terrace, 1919 Lakeland Hills Blvd,
  • Robinson Family Clinic, 4406 S. Florida Ave., Suite 30
  • One Blood, 3200 Lakeland Hills Blvd.,
  • Unity in the Grove, 6230 Lakeland Highlands Rd., and
  • Comfort Keepers, 708 S. Florida Ave.
