O’Reilly Presented with Diamond Service Award

At today’s joint meeting of the Board of Directors and Advisory Board, VISTE (Volunteers In Service To the Elderly) President Alice O’Reilly received the Diamond Service Award from Congressman Dennis Ross.

The Diamond Service Award celebrates the Highest in Lifetime Achievements in the field of Aging, according to Austin Curry, Executive Director of Elder Care Advocacy of Florida. The Award is given in honor of an individual’s outstanding service and unselfish humanitarianism.

“This award has a tremendous history,” said Ross. “It is rather exclusive. It is not given every year, but this year, it is being given to someone who met and exceeded the qualifications for the award.”

Alice O’Reilly began serving on the VISTE Board of Directors in 1986 and has served as its Executive Director since 1995. She announced her retirement in April and at the end of her tenure with VISTE, O’Reilly will have served the organization 20 years. In that time, she has become the public face of VISTE and the driving force behind its continued growth and success.

“In the 20 years since Alice O’Reilly has been with VISTE, she has taken this organization and made it into an organization that I would like to see replicated,” said Ross.

During her time as VISTE President, O’Reilly has distinguished herself as a strong advocate for the elderly in this community. She has served in various volunteer capacities herself, including:

  • White House Council on Aging –  past delegate under the Bush administration

  • Florida Department of Elder Affairs Advisory Council – Past Chairman

  • West Central Florida Agency on Aging – President

  • Jere Annis Award recipient, 2002

  • Lakeland Woman of the Year, 1999

  • City of Lakeland Seniors Council – Member

  • Lakeland Vision – Co-Chairman for Quality of Life

  • Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce – Executive Committee Member

  • Lakeland Leadership Council on Seniors, and

  • Lakeland Regional Medical Center Foundation – Past President and Board Member.

“Alice has made her community stronger, her family proud, and has enhanced the lives of all she has served and has made those lives better,” Ross said.

The Diamond Service Award consists of a plaque and a signed citation from Governor Rick Scott as well as a sterling silver necklace with a five carat pendant.
