President’s Message: Looking Back, Looking Forward

Steve Bissonnette, President

When was the last time you celebrated a milestone birthday or anniversary? For many, these events are marked by a time of reflection, celebration, and renewed hope for the future. As VISTE celebrates its 40th Anniversary, this past year has been filled with activities that honor our past, celebrate current successes, and direct our hope and attention toward the next 40 years.

We owe a debt of gratitude to those whose vision and pure determination laid the groundwork upon which this one-of-a-kind organization came into being. From humble beginnings in 1983, VISTE now serves over 4,100 people who range in age from 70-107, helping them remain safely and independently in their own home.

This anniversary year has been marked by several celebrations made possible by our 40th Anniversary Sponsors: Citizens Bank & Trust, GEICO, Publix Super Markets Charities, T. Mims Corp., and Victory Church. VISTE would not be here today if it weren’t for the ongoing support and commitment of these organizations and many others throughout our community. THANK YOU!!!

We are truly blessed to live in a community that recognizes and cares for the needs of our elderly family members, friends, and neighbors enough to support and sustain an organization like Volunteers in Service to the Elderly. Ongoing financial support is essential to providing services at no charge to our elderly clients. At the same time, volunteer engagement is the key to combating an often-underlying issue of social isolation. Volunteers are the secret sauce that transform each service delivery into a meaningful interaction that helps foster dignity and hope. For many volunteers, these personal encounters also provide them with joy and a sense of purpose, reaffirming the wisdom that it is more blessed to give than to receive.

As we wrap up the 40th Anniversary our attention shifts to the future to carry on this legacy of care and hope for the next generation of seniors in need. Your ongoing commitment brings great comfort to those that have come to rely on us to provide essential services regardless of the weather, economy, or a worldwide pandemic.

You can help further that cause by volunteering this holiday season to deliver Thanksgiving meals, boxes of Personal Care items, or Christmas gifts. Simply visit the Volunteer tab at the top of the page or call our office at 863-284-0820 to sign up. Advance registration is required. And while you’re thinking about it, you can help further the legacy by inviting a friend to go with you.

On behalf of the more than 4,100 seniors we currently serve, and the 60+ new clients we add every month, THANK YOU for your dedication and perseverance to this life-affirming work. Forward together!
