Do you remember your first car? I do… It was a Chevy El Camino with a camper top over the back. I still remember that first drive with Jim Croce playing on the radio; “Movin’ me down the highway, Rollin’ me down the highway, Movin’ ahead so life won’t pass me by.” There was something magical about that experience and the sense of freedom and independence that came with it. In time, the ability to access a car and travel whenever and wherever I want became second nature, along with that sense of independence. It’s no wonder that the prospect of giving up the car keys later in life is often one of our most difficult decisions.
Since 1983 VISTE has worked to ease this transition by providing non-emergency transportation service to seniors in need. During the past year alone, more than 15,000 trips were provided, primarily to medical related appointments. This edition of News & Views shines a spotlight on our Transportation program. We hope you enjoy learning more about this essential service and how your support is helping more than 500 of our elderly neighbors maintain their independence with the dignity and respect they deserve.
Working together, VISTE is committed to providing seniors the reassurance they need to remain safe and independent in their own homes for years to come.
Forward!
