Volunteers Make Gober Villas Clean-up a Success

One of the things that makes VISTE different is that we consider the whole person, not just one aspect or another. Ashley Miller, Volunteer Coordinator, presented that information to a group of new volunteers at this week’s Volunteer Orientation, and that was not more evident than at Wednesday’s Clean-Up Day at Gober Villas Housing. Volunteers for the Gober Villas Clean-up are from First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland and are under the leadership of Kathy Abels, a member of FPC whose husband also serves on the VISTE Board of Directors. Approximately 15 to 20 volunteers contributed several hours of labor to the event.

“Gober Villas has less than 40 units and many of the residents are VISTE clients. Each spring, the volunteers from First Presbyterian go out and do light cleaning in the houses for our clients. It is such a help for these individuals,” Miller said. “It was especially nice yesterday to have so many gentleman volunteer to do the outdoor raking of the leaves and the cleaning of the lawns. Several residents have such beautiful gardens that they try to maintain, and this was a big help to them.”

After the volunteers completed the requested cleaning projects, volunteers and residents gathered together for a meal.

In the summer, the same group will gather together for a similar clean-up day at the Florida Presbyterian Apartments.Ashley & Patsy
